Tom Donald – Founder & Director
Australian Tom Donald is a piano virtuoso with classical roots, mixed with a strong interest in all styles including Latin, soul, rock, R&B, musical and jazz.
Tom is regarded as a master of improvising these styles by critics and audiences alike who have witnessed his solo piano concerts. He has played a string of international concerts both solo and with his band, has composed for film and is a successful teacher.
Tom Donald was born in the small town of Coonabarabran in New South Wales. Despite having a hearing deficiency which lead to speech difficulties, he developed music as his first language. Tom started playing the piano from the age of five, and began composing music shortly afterwards. Aged ten, Tom moved with his family to Tamworth, known as the Country Music Capital of Australia. There he played his first paid gig, aged fourteen, at Monty’s restaurant in the prestigious five-star Powerhouse Hotel. Monty’s was a popular location for visiting business travellers from home and abroad. Tom became a frequent performer and developed a playing style that included all genres of music, from classical through to pop and rock.
By age eighteen, Tom was already an established local composer and concert pianist, and went on to spend the next three years studying a Bachelor of Music degree at Newcastle Conservatorium, Newcastle University, Australia.
