How did you get on with CAIT’S PIANO SURVIVAL KIT – Part 1 on the Power of C major? You can always email me with your thoughts and feedback. I’d love to hear from you.
In the meantime, I wanted to share some extended info about C major. These principles can be applied to ALL keys by the way, but for continuity’s sake, let’s stick with C major. After all, it’s the key of the most popular and most listened to music across the globe!
Have you wanted to just sit down and play something… with absolutely no score in front of you and never having to rely on having something committed to memory?
This is the aspiration of so many people I speak to. A lot of them have been playing piano for most of their lives. They have a grade 8 under their belt, but they can’t quite seem to break away from reading and playing what is written out on a score in front of them.
The fear of the unknown… And that’s the point!
Most people don’t realise that with a few tricks and tips, and some fundamental tools and concepts, anyone could sit down and play absolutely anything. It’s impossible to make a mistake!
Part 2: What you need to do!
Reflect on the combination of notes and chords that make up C major. Keep an open mind. Remember that you CANNOT make a mistake.
If you don’t feel like practicing finger drills or scales or whatever songs you happen to be learning to play at the time… take a break from it… why not try your hand at some improvisation?
This tutorial uncovers some key tips about improvisation. It is something we do all day and every day… without even thinking about it. And improvising at the piano, through practice and repetition, can feel the same way – with practice.
Once you know the formula, in this instance, C major and only playing the white keys, you can’t make any mistakes!
I often hear from people how they “wish they could just sit down at the piano and play something” in those exact words. Well, that’s exactly what we do at the London Contemporary School of Piano.
If you’d like to arrange a quick phone chat with me (no time wasters please!) I can go into more detail with you on how the C major Tool Kit and our classes will develop your musicianship to the point of being able to jam and enjoy music.
